7 pm Saturday in Clinton, MS
Buoyed by an impressive defensive effort a week ago, Cumberland's Phoenix make the long trip to Clinton, MS Saturday for a game against NCAA Division II foe Mississippi College. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at 8,500-seat Robinson-Hale Stadium.

Live radio coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. on WANT FM-98.9, WCOR AM-1490 and on the Internet at wantfm.com.

Cumberland moved to 1-2 on the season following last week's gritty 17-14 home victory over the university of the Cumberland.s.

Phoenix kicker Matthew Alter was voted Mid-South Conference Special teams player of the Week for banging home a 28-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter for the game-winning score.

The Montgomery, Ala., native missed from 24 yards in the third period, hitting the right upright after a high snap on the play.

In the final quarter Cumberland was whistled for a false start on 4th-and-goal at the one yard line and as Alter tried a 23-yard attempt, the Phoenix jumped again, moving the ball back five more yards. He converted the 28-yarder with no problems and is now 2-for-6 in his career on field goal attempts.

Phoenix linebackers Nathan Jernigan (13 tackles) and Cody Carr (10 stops) paced a Cumberland defensive effort that limited the Patriots to just 3.3 yards per rushing attempt and forced a pair of turnovers.

Mississippi College enters Saturday's game 1-2 following a 38-13 home loss a week ago to powerful West Alabama.
