School Spirit Kickoff planned tonight
The Wilson County Fair will take on a football feel tonight (Wednesday, Aug. 19) as the inaugural School Spirit Kickoff is planned for Building Y -- also known as the Wilson County Exhibition Center.

According to event organizers cheerleaders and dance squads from Wilson County middle schools will take the stage at 6:30 p.m.; followed by varsity cheerleaders from all six football playing high schools in the county.

Following remarks from Tim Bryant, county coordinator of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the varsity football teams will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. for introductions and remarks from each head coach.

Sporting goods salesman Tate Mathews, who hosts a Saturday morning radio show geared toward high school athletics, will conduct the interviews.

"The folks with the fair have issued passes for all of our football players, cheerleaders and dance teamers," said Chuck Whitlock, assistant director of Wilson County Schools.

"This is a novel and exciti9ng way to get folks geared-up for the football season."

The Spirit Kickoff is sponsored by Under Armour / Mathews Team Sports.
