Free haircuts hope to bring smiles to students

Four local salons have teamed with Crossroads Church to offer free Back to School haircuts this Saturday.

Wilson County and surrounding area students ages 4-18 are invited to get a complimentary cut at The Mill at Lebanon from 2-4 p.m. Participating salons include Asante, Lookers Salon and Spa, Aqua Bella and Libelle Beech Salon.

Crossroads volunteer Lorie Dove said this is the second annual haircut event. "On the second Saturday of every month we do a serving initiative. We have free dental cleanings for single moms, oil changes and we are involved in Sherry's Run," Dove said. "We go out and find ways to give back - no strings attached."

Lookers Salon & Spa Owner Angie Gardner said five stylists from her salon will be participating. "I believe in being a part of the community and giving back to the community, because it always comes back around," she said.

Lookers Stylist Savannah Salerno added that she donated her talents so that "kids can feel good about going back to school."

"Yes, a lot of parents need help - especially if they don't have a lot of money. It is hard to get all the back to school clothes, supplies and then haircuts, too," she explained. "But it is also about the kids. The little ones love it and it pumps up their spirits and gets them excited about school."
