Free volleyball clinic at LHS

NOTICE -- Lebanon High School volleyball program is hosting a free clinic Sunday, June 7 for all elementary and middle school girls. The clinic will run from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Campbell Brandon Gymnasium. The current players and coaches are running the clinic. Registration begins at 1:45 p.m. Athletes should be dressed to participate. Call head coach Paula Jackson at 615-417-5650 for more information.

Lebanon High will hold freshman volleyball tryouts Monday, June 8 and Tuesday June 9 between the hours of 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. each evening.  

Looking for a summer camp for your out-of-school athlete? Look no further as we’ve compiled a listing of local sports camps offered by area coaches. Two more camps were added Thursday afternoon.

CU baseball camps -- Cumberland baseball coach Woody Hunt has announced his 2009 summer camp schedule. Hitting - June 8-11; Fundamentals - June 15, 17-19; Pitching - June 22-25; Advanced Fundamentals - July 6-9. Call the CU baseball office at 547-1366 or 708-0727.

MJCA hoops, FB camps -- Mt. Juliet Christian Academy will hold basketball and football camps beginning Monday, June 1. Basketball (boy or girl) is set 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. June 1-4; football 9 - 11 a.m. June 8-12. Cost is $55 per camp or $100 for both.  Call 758-2427 or email

Mike Jones FB skills camp -- Former Tennessee Titan Mike Jones will hold a football skills camp Monday - Thursday / June 1 - July 10 between the hours of 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. A $50 registration fee will be charged along with $85 per week.  Instructors include: Jones, a 9-year NFL veteran, as well as college football players Daley Sallis (Rhodes College), D.D. Speed school at MTSU -- Middle Tennessee State University will hold a Speed School in two sessions June 9, 16, 23 and July 7, 14, 21. Cost is $130 for all six sessions, $75 for three or $30 for a single session. More information: Matt Riley (615) 904-8196 or Russell Patterson (615) 898-2428.

CU softball camp -- Cumberland’s softball team will conduct four camps this summer, starting with an All Skills Camp June 15-17. Head coach Heather Stanfill will offer a Hitting Clinic July 7 and a Pitching/Catching Clinic July 30. Another All Skills Camp will take place July 20-22. MJ boys basketball camp -- Mt. Juliet High boys basketball coach Troy Allen will hold camp June 15-18 between the hours of 8 - 11:30 a.m. The fundamental camp is for students entering grades two through eight. Cost is $65 per camper. Call Troy Allen at 758-5606 or email

Bearette basketball camp -- Mt. Juliet High girls basketball coach Chris Fryer will hold a fundamentals camp June 8-11 for ages of 6-15. Dribbling, passing and shooting will be stressed. Summer volleyball schools -- Cumberland coach Dewayne Deering will offer a Volleyball Summer Skills School June 10-13 for girls ages 8-18. Each session is 10 a.m. - 12 Noon, cost $35 each session (day); $125 for all four sessions. Betty Rushing tennis camp -- The ninth annual Betty Rushing Tennis Camp will be held on five consecutive Saturdays May 30 - June 27 at the Buddy Maddox Tennis Courts in the Baird Park Complex. Cost is $40 per player with racquets provided for those who lack equipment. Balls, refreshments, racquets will be provided. Sponsors include City of Lebanon Department of Recreation, THW Insurance Services and Power Tennis of Cool Springs. The camp is held annually in honor of the late Betty Rushing, a pioneer in prep tennis during her time as coach at Lebanon High. MJ Bears football camp -- Mt. Juliet High football coach Roger Perry invites all boys grades K-8 to his FREE camp June 15, 16 and 17 at the new school on Curd Road. Camp will be held 9 a.m. - 12 Noon each day. Applications are available at the school office.


Future Tigers FB camp -- The second annual Future Tigers football camp is set for June 8-12 in Watertown. Boys grades 1-7 are invited 9 a.m. - 12 Noon. Cost is $50 per camper. Call Shavez Jobe at 237-3289 for more information.
