MJHS 39, Wilson Central 32 (OT)
GLADEVILLE -- Mt. Juliet needed a fourth quarter scoring barrage and a little extra time to overcome Wilson Central 39-32 Friday, Sept. 23 at Wildcat Stadium.
The Golden Bears (4-2, 2-1 in Region 3, 6A) extended their winning streak over their cross-county rivals to eight and knocked the Wildcats from the ranks of the undefeated (5-1, 2-1).
Mt. Juliet kicker Jacob Bailey drilled a 27-yard field goal on the final play of regulation to force the overtime.
Bear QB Mason Earls scored the eventual game winner on a six-yard run in overtime.
The loss offset a brilliant night for WCHS quarterback Blake Meadors who threw for over 300 yards and two scores. Colton Dowell caught nine passes for 135 yards and a TD.
Mt. Juliet halfback Aiden Raines scored three times and ran for 232 yards.
Wilson Central plays at Lebanon Friday, Sept. 30 while Mt. Juliet plays at Nashville Overton.
Lebanon 35, Portland 7
LEBANON -- Needing a win in the worst possible way, Lebanon took and early lead and never looked back in a 35-7 homecoming win over Portland Friday, Sept. 23 at Tribble Field / Watkins Stadium.
The Blue Devils won for the first time this season (1-4) and snapped a four year losing steak to the Panthers (1-5).
Slotback Tyrique Cooper scored three touchdowns -- two rushing and one on a 34-yard pass from Chaandler Crite.
Cooper rushed 15 times for 92 yards as LHS piled up 443 yards in total offense and 13 first downs.
Crite added 80 yards rushing on eight tries and scored twice. The sophomore also completed 7-of-9 passes for 94 yards and a pair of scores.
Lebanon hosts Wilson Central Friday, Sept. 30.
Watertown 42, Eagleville 21
WATERTOWN -- Down 7-0 at intermission, Watertown righted the ship and went on to down Eagleville 42-21 Friday, Sept. 23 at Robinson Stadium.
Quarterback Seth Price threw three first half interceptions as the Purple Tigers found themselves in an early hole for the second consecutive week.
Senior Ty Love ran 22 times for 173 yards and scored twice.
Price finished 13-of-19 passing for 156 yards with three touchdown passes - along with the three first half picks.
Now 6-0 on the season, WHS will play a key regional game at undefeated Forrest High Friday, Sept. 30 in Chapel Hill.
The Rockets dusted Cascade 43-7 Friday night.
MJ Christian 34, Ezell-Harding 20
MT. JULIET -- A big third quarter helped lift Mt. Juliet Christian Academy to a 34-20 win over Ezell-Harding Friday, Sept. 23 at Suey Field.
The Saints broke open a 6-6 contest with four third period scores -- improving to 5-1 on the season -- a new high water mark in victories for the football program.
darius Hylick ran 13 times for 126 yards while Austin Collier added 101 yards on 13 attempts.
MJ Christian plays Friday, Sept. 30 at district and local rival Friendship Christian School.
Friendship 27, FRA 0
NASHVILLE -- Friendship Christian bounced back from a tough loss to Knox Webb a week ago with a comfortable 27-0 victory over Franklin Road Academy Friday, Sept. 23 at the George A. Volkert Athletic Complex.
Leading 13-0 at intermission, the Commander tacked on a pair of third period scores -- improving to 2-3 on the season.
Speedy Foutch broke the game open with a 76-yard TD sprint in the early going. He finished with five carries for 89 yards.
Spencer Burge added 73 yards on eight attempts while ninth grader Justin Seagraves scored a pair of touchdowns -- running three times for 59 yards.
FCS is set to host Mt. Juliet Christian Academy Friday, Sept. 30 at Pirtle Field.
