Game on! Wilson Central will play at Gallatin on Friday

The Wilson Central vs. Gallatin contest was iffy as of press time on Tuesday due to the budget deadlock in Sumner County. But on Tuesday night, the Sumner County Board of Education voted to open schools on Thursday, Aug. 16 -- allowing fall sports contests to be played.

Lebanon and Mt. Juliet are set to renew their longtime rivalry Friday evening at Mt. Juliet. LHS is coming off a 2-0 loss to Coffee County in Fridays Kickoff Classic at Watkins Stadium / Tribble Field.

An errant Blue Devil punt snap led to an intentional safety early in the first quarter and turned out to be the only points in the game. Lebanon created two CCHS fumbles -- both recovered by Blue Devil defenders.

Lebanon and Mt. Juliet have played each other for 35 consecutive seasons since the rivalry was renewed back in 1977.

After winning each of the last three meetings, the Bears lead the series 19-16. Mt. Juliet won the 2011 game 38-13 at Nokes-Lasater Field, 48-20 in 2010 and 52-13 in 2009.

Mt. Pleasant 14, Friendship 14COLUMBIA -- Mt. Pleasant and Friendship played two quarters to a 14-14 tie in the First Farmers Kickoff Jamboree Friday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Friendships first score came as a fumble by Tiger QB Princeton Harlan was returned by Commander linebacker Dillon Hodges for a 23-yard touchdown on the second play of the game.

The Tigers answered with a score of their own as Harlan hit Kenyores Smith in stride for a 38-yard touchdown to make it 7-6.

Friendship's only offensive scoring drive came in the second quarter when Austin Taylor scored on a five-yard run to give Friendship Christian a 14-6 lead. Taylor finished with a game-high 64 yards rushing, while Steven Hollis added 52 yards.Wilson Central 21, Macon County 0HARTSVILLE -- Kyle Coombes scored touchdowns on runs of 25 and 45 yards to lead Wilson Central to a 21-0 victory over Macon County in the annual Tobacco Bowl Jamboree at John Kerr Field.

Caleb Butler added a two-yard scoring plunge as the Wildcats dominated from the start. Butlers touchdown was made possible by a 35-yard pass play from QB Jordan Roundtree to freshman Gabe Angel. Brad Cavanough was three-for-three on PAT attempts.

DeKalb County 14,, Watertown 0WATERTOWN -- DeKalb County blanked Watertown 14-0 Saturday in two periods of jamboree play at Robinson Stadium. The Purple Tigers will be in action Friday, Aug. 14 as they travel to Woodbury to take on Cannon County High School.
