Providence Parkway in Mt. Juliet was closed to thru traffic for a few hours on Wednesday afternoon after a water utility contractor ruptured a gas main.
Mt. Juliet Police, Fire Department of Mt. Juliet and WEMA responded to what was originally thought to be a 6-inch pipe rupture around 10:50 a.m. Upon arrival, emergency responders found Piedmont Natural Gas attempting to repair the 4-inch rupture, behind the Providence 14 theater.
Apartment residents nearby were told they could leave their homes or turn off the air conditioning for safety purposes since fumes were blowing east.
Piedmont Natural Gas repair crews capped and stopped the gas leak around 1:15 p.m. this afternoon.
