LEBANON -- "Hi-4," an all-girl team representing Winfree Bryant Middle School, won the inaugural Wilson County Battle of the Books competition on Tuesday, April 12.

In the final round of the competition the Hi-4s bested a team from Carroll-Oakland.

In the Battle of the Books, middle school teams read from a list of 20 pre-selected books then answer questions about the books.

The competition was moderated by Winfree Bryant Middle School Librarian Gina Wiser.

The Hi-4s consisted of Isabella Sorce, Aurian Wheaton, Tyrika Small, Natasha Brunner and Lexie Tomaszewski.

Some of the girls read all 20 books, and others said they focused on a smaller number. They had a few months to read the material.

"We practiced to see how we could handle the competition," said Sorce, before running off to celebrate her team's victory.
