"Glenn was one-of-a-kind," said Gary Mac Foster, one of his former boxers. "Through his unselfishness and encouragement, he gave many young boys in this town a chance to improve themselves. He never once asked for anything in return."
A member of the First United Methodist Church, he was the son of the late Dick and Martha Kirby Gardner.
Services were conducted by Rev. David Hesson and Rev. Kevin Medlin. Burial followed at the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include: his wife of 52 years Marilyn Eskew Gardner and children John Gardner, Jim Gardner, Joe (Shelley) Gardner and Jill Gardner.
Also surviving are brother-in-laws Kenneth (Clare) Eskew and Tony (Sherry) Eskew; grandchildren Tyler (Sabrina) Dawson, Trevin Potter, Amanda Burlison, Jonathan Gardner, Dustin Gardner, Shaelyn Gardner, Jace Patton Gardner, Jonah Glenn Gardner; great grandchildren Ty Jaden Burlison, Nick Burlison, Zachary Burlison, Rhianna Burlison and Jakob Gardner.
Active pallbearers will include: sons, grandsons and brothers-in-laws. Honorary pallbearers will include former employees of Dicks Food Mart and lifelong friends.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Gardner’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Partlow Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
