CLARKSVILLE -- Wilson County will be sending two golfers to next week's TSSAA Class AAA state championships after they qualified in Monday's Region 5-AAA tournament at the Swan Lake Course.

Wilson Central's Blain Turner was in contention for the win, playing at two-under through 14. The junior triple bogeyed the Par 5 15th hole and finished with a 74, just two shots off the lead.

"Swan Lake is a really tough course with greens faster than anything we play all year," said Wilson Central coach David Jennings. "Blain did a great job of keeping the ball out of trouble, and really had great speed on the greens all day."

Mt. Juliet's Sam Fogg also qualified for the state championships with a 78.

Manchester's WillowBrook Golf Club will host the state championships Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 29 and 30.

Lebanon's Ethan Mabry and Caroline Hendrick just missed out on earning spots in the state -- losing in sudden death playoffs.

Hendrick tied for seventh overall among 28 girls with a score of 82, breaking her own school record for best girl's finish.

Katherine Caudill of Clarksville Rossview High defeated Henrick in a one hole playoff.

Mabry also tied for seventh out of 40 boys with a score of 80.

Mabry and Jordan Powell of Station Camp went to four holes of sudden death before the final berth to the state championships could be decided.

The LHS team finished fourth out of six with a team score of 336.
