The 11th Annual Granville Country Christmas will be held on Saturday, Dec. 12 with this year’s theme, “Christmas Memories.”
The great day of celebration will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 8 p.m. with great holiday fun for all ages. The historic riverboat town will be decked out with Christmas decorations and will be a day to put you in the holiday spirit.
Some of the many great features of the day include the annual Antique Toy Show at Sutton’s General Store which will feature some of the most unique toys of yesteryearyou will ever see. Sutton’s offers the a great setting for this show and will bring back stories and memories of your childhood.
The Granville Museum will feature “The Festival of Trees” as the Christmas Trees of each era of history as well as other decorations that have become part of our heritage. As you walk through this holiday exhibit, history will come to life and stories will be remembered. At 10 a.m., there will be the dedication of the Barbra Myers Alexander Genealogy Room of the museum followed by “Christmas Memories” at 10:30 shared by Liz Huff Bennett. Others will also share their memories.
A great lunch will be served in the dining room of Sutton’s General Store followed by “A Taste of Christmas” at the museum from 1 to 4 p.m. as well as a visit from Santa Claus at 1 p.m. at the store. Children’s rides will be at the event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will feature anew Christmas Train on Main Street in the historic town.
Great Christmas music will be a major part of the day as the Christmas Musicals will be at noon and at 2 p.m. at Granville United Methodist Church.
The musical is entitled “Christmas Memories” which is a unique musical featuring the Ladies of the Carthage United Methodist Church Choir, Granville United Methodist Church, Carolyn Cathey and Carolyn Bond. Fifteen minutes before each musical, the Joy Youth Handbell Choir of Hermitage United Methodist Church will perform. Members of the Jackson County High School Band will perform at Sutton’s General Store
At 1 p.m., Country Christmas will also feature the Dr. Glenn Watts Memorial Christmas Tree Lighting at 4:45 p.m. and a Candlelight Walking Tour of Granville from 5 to 8 p.m.
Sutton Ole Time Music Hour will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the radio taping at 7 p.m. There will be an Old Time Christmas Party at the store following the taping at 7:30 p.m.
