ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- Former Smith County resident Harold W. Babcock Jr. died Monday, March 28, 2011 at the Edward White Hospital in Saint Petersburg, FL following a short illness.
A Celebration of Life was conducted at the Indian Rocks Beach Baptist Church at Fort Desoto Park March 31 with Bro. Scott Harris officiating.
Born on January 7, 1964 in New York, he was the son of Harold & Sandra Baker Babcock of Gordonsville, who survive.
He was preceded in death by a brother John Eugene Babcock, and by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Mr. Babcock was a 1982 graduate of Northeast High School in St. Petersburg. He enlisted in the United States Army following graduation and was stationed in Pgorzheim, Germany and El Paso, Texas before completion of his military service in 1989.
Mr. Babcock later moved with his family to Gordonsville where he was employed with World Finance.
Following a two-year battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, he was self-employed doing framing and construction until returning to St. Petersburg in 2005.
He had worked with Rick York’s Tree Service and received his Horticulture license.
Surviving in addition to his parents are sons Cullen “C.J.” (Kelly) Babcock of MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, FL, Cody Babcock of Gordonsville, Alexander Cole Babcock of St. Petersburg; wife and mother of Alexander, Elisa Dicarlo-Babcock of St. Petersburg; step-son Adam Gomez; brothers Stephen (Jennifer) Babcock of St. Petersburg, Mickey (Angel) Babcock of Gordonsville; cousins raised as brothers Kevin (Lorena) Babcock of California, Peter (Nhi) Babcock of St. Petersburg; granddaughter Jayde Alexis Babcock; several nieces and nephews.
