A new Stoner Creek Elementary School principal has been named and will start on March 27.

Michael Hickman comes from Buchanan Elementary in Murfreesboro, according to a Wilson County Schools press release.

He takes over for Christine Miller, who vacated the position to start the 2017 school year at the new Springdale Elementary, which will get students from Stoner Creek as a result of redistricting.

Hickman has worked for Rutherford County schools since 1996. For seven years he was principal of Buchanan Elementary School. In 2012, Buchanan Elementary was ranked among the top five percent in the state for progress. Three years later, his school was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School for Gap Closure.

"We continue to be proud of the extraordinary performance of our students and teachers at Stoner Creek," said Wilson County Schools Director Dr. Donna Wright. " I'm certain Mr. Hickman will be able to, not only assume the role of principal, but take the school to even greater heights."
