The congregation of Hillcrest Baptist Church will honor longtime Pastor Glenn Denton this Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
Denton has served at the church for the past 25 years.
Denton first came to Hillcrest Baptist in 1989, after praying for God to place him at the right church. According to a news release from Hillcrest, Denton had heard that Hillcrest was unable to financially support a preacher at the time – but wanted to be involved.
Denton did whatever needed to be done to meet the needs of the people of Hillcrest, whether it be preaching, counseling or even cleaning the church. Positive dividends began to show at Hillcrest and also in the lives of the Denton family as attendance began to rise.
Under the leadership of Denton, Hillcrest has grown to a congregation of more than 1,000, with new buildings, nursery services, Sunday School classes for all ages and an Awana program on Wednesdays to help youth learn more about God’s word. They also have a fair booth ministry set up at the Wilson County Fair.
Denton said he isn’t comfortable when the attention is on him and instead credited God with the church’s success.
“God has done everything. He has been tremendously good to us,” he said. “God has grown us to a level we could not have expected.”
Hillcrest Baptist Church is located at 621 Hartsville Pike in Lebanon. For more information on service times go to hillcrestbaptist.org.
