Wilson County Veterans Service Officer Bernie Ash is gearing up for the fourth annual Honor Ride for Veterans.

The event, which has typically raised $3,000 in years past for the Veterans Park & Museum, will be held Saturday, May 14.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the James E. Ward Ag Center, with kickstands up at 10:30 a.m. There will be entertainment and food vendors as well. All motorcycles and riders are welcome - the cost is $20 per rider and $10 per passenger and includes a T-shirt.

Ash expects about 200 bikes to show up on the day of the event, "if the weather is good."

Funds raised will help complete the Veterans Plaza.

"The park is already done, and so what we have left is office space and the museum," he said, noting that a foundation was poured this week. "We are going ahead and building ... but we are short about $200,000 and need that to finish the inside."

The Veterans Plaza is expected to open on Oct. 29 this year.
