Hillsboro ends Mt. Juliet season
NASHVILLE -- Hillsboro senior Thomas Smith led the way with a double-double, 24 points and 12 rebounds, as the Burros clinched a berth in next week's BlueCross Basketball Championships with a 66-46 win over Mt. Juliet Monday.
The Burros pulled ahead 19-2 and never looked back, improving to 21-7 on the season.
Mt. Juliet ended the season 24-10 overall -- the best finish for the program since going 25-8 in 2012.
Darius Ferguson added 11 points for Hillsboro, going 9-of-10 from the charity stripe.
The Golden Bears managed to cut the lead to single digits (45-36) within once Smith went to the bench in foul trouble, but the Burros responded with a 6-0 run to push the margin out to 15.
Tyler Falkenberry led Mt. Juliet with 12 points, Trey Pruitt added 11, J.R. Sanders had nine points, Christian Bell and Terrell Wilson each had five and Austin Brown finished with four points.
