Two double-doubles for CU standout
Cumberland senior Nicole Bowers was voted Mid-South Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week Monday, posting a pair of double-doubles in two victories for the Phoenix to open the season.

The Nashville Hillsboro graduate collected 19 points and 19 rebounds in a seven-point win over 21st-ranked Talladega College in the season opener, including 15 points and 11 boards in the second half. She followed that with 13 points and 16 rebounds at Indiana-Southeast.

Bowers averaged more than 37 minutes of action in the two games and made 14-of-18 at the foul line. It marked her ninth and 10th career double-doubles in 31 career outings.

Cumberland (2-0) hosts Middle Georgia State Thursday, Nov. 9 at 6 p.m., beginning a stretch of six games in 12 days, which also includes home outings against Fisk University and Hiwassee College.
