MARIETTA, Ga. - Life University used a 13-4 run to open the second half and never looked back in a 92-71 victory over Cumberland Thursday night at The Eagles' Nest.
The Phoenix (10-13, 3-7 Mid-South) and Running Eagles (12-8, 6-5) were tied at 34 with less than two minutes left in the first half, but Life netted the final six points of the period and then started the second half with the 13-4 spurt, with Williams scoring six points and Dantzler adding four during the stretch.
Life stretched the lead to as many as 20 midway through the half. Cumberland answered with a 12-4 run, including a pair of lefthanded layups from Garrett Kirkland, pulling CU within 69-57 with seven minutes remaining.
Cameron Johnson led Cumberland with 16 points, while Marquel Hickerson and Will Shelton each netted 12. Ronell Abaekobe added 10 points off the bench for CU.
Cumberland returns home next week, facing Shawnee State on Thursday at 8 p.m. and second-ranked Georgetown College on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center.
