Jackson Co. sweeps Watertown
WATERTOWN -- Jackson County High swept a basketball doubleheader from Watertown Tuesday, Dec. 14.
The Lady Devils (9-1) won Tuesday's opener 46-41 behind 17 points from Kaitlyn Pippin. Watertown fell to 6-4 deapite 13 points from Bobbi Staats and 10 from DaeDae Nunley.
In the nightcap, the Purple Tigers slid to 3-4 on the season with a 73-58 loss to Jackson County as Seth Price finished with 18 points and Ty Love had 11. Watertown was 15-of-25 from the line (60 percent) and turned the ball over 16 times.
Both Watertown teams will be in action Thursday afternoon in the MJCA Christmas Classic. The Tigerettes play host Mt. Juliet Christian at 4 p.m. followed by the boys at 5:30 p.m.
WCHS wins two at Warren Co.
McMINNVILLE -- Wilson Central's basketball teams brought home a pair of wins at Warren County High Tuesday night.
The Lady Wildcats remained undefeated at 9-0 with a 69-45 win in the opener. Kendall Spray ripped the nets for 25 points while Addison Byrd added 11. WCHS went 17-of-21 at the line (80 percent) and and 12-of-28 from three (42 percent).
Wilson Central's boys pulled out a 66-58 victory in the late game, riding 20-point effort from Dez Mason and 18 from Gavin Johnson.
Dawson Hamilton and Aaron Schoch each had 10 points as the Wildcats improved to 5-4 overall.
The Lady Wildcats are scheduled to play in the (Franklin) Page Winter Classic Friday at 6:30 p.m. against Whites Creek High.
Wilson Central's boys will play host Page High Friday at 8 p.m. in the Winter Classic.
LHS splits with Shelbyville
SHELBYVILLE -- Lebanon High split a pair of Tuesday night basketball games at Shelbyville Central High.
The Devilettes fell to 5-5 with a 67-49 loss in the opener. Bailey Sells led LHS with 12 points and Maleigha Oldham added eight.
Coach Jim McDowell's boys remained perfect on the season at 8-0 with a 56-36 victory in the nightcap. Senior Kobe Neuble led the way with 13 points and soph Noah Mulaski added 12 -- sinking four 3-pointers. Eddie Jackson had 10 and Tay Jackson nine.
Both LHS teams will travel to Gatlinburg to play in the Smokey Mountain Classic Monday, Dec. 21.
The Devilettes open the event 10:30 a.m. Monday against Jackson County (Ky.) at the Gatlinburg Community Center.
The Lebanon boys will also play 10:30 a.m. Monday vs. Wayne County (Ky.) at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School.
