He was a US Army veteran, having served in World War II. Dr. Howard was a member of the Xi Psi Phi Dental Fraternity, past president of the Lebanon Lions Club, a member of the TN Dental Association, past president of the Lebanon / Wilson County Chamber of Commerce, a director of Peoples Bank and Sun Trust Bank.
He served on the Lebanon City Council, and was a member of the Lebanon Jaycees.
Services were conducted by Brother Wayne Miller and Brother Joe Widick. Interment at Wilson County Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include: children Dr. William Stone (Gail) Howard, DDS of Tellico Plains; Kathryn (Ron) McCleskey of Lebanon and Christy (Kenneth) Webb of Nashville.
Also surviving are grandchildren: Richard J. (Jennifer) Howard of Chattanooga, Tyler (Janet) King of Nashville, Ryan King of Tuscon, AZ., Kathryn Webb, Clayton Webb and William Webb -- all of Nashville; brother Jack Harris Howard of Lebanon; brother-in-law Judge Harry Wilters of Foley, AL.; nephews Dr. John (Taryn) Wilters of Nashville and Judge Bob (Ame) Wilters of Foley, AL.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Howard is preceded in death by his first wife Joyce Shoffner Howard, his second wife Tish Eskew Howard and sister Martha Howard Wilters.
Active pallbearers: Richard Howard, Tyler King, Ryan King, Clayton Webb, Ken Webb and Ron McCleskey. Honorary pallbearers: childhood friends Miles Smith, Bill Barry and Hubert Clemons; employees and Directors of Sun Trust Bank; residents and staff of ElmCroft.
