Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13 at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home for Mr. Ike Stewart, 85, of Lebanon.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy and for 44 years the Wilson County Veterans Service Officer, Mr. Stewart died Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at the Alvin C. York Veterans Hospital in Murfreesboro.

A member of West Hills Baptist Church, the Gideons, V.F.W., and American Legion, Mr. Stewart was one of the founders of Lebanon's first homeless shelter, the Faith Rescue Mission.

The family will receive friends 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday after 9 a.m. at Ligon & Bobo. Services will be conducted by Bro. Donald Owens and Bro. Jonas Taylor. Interment with military honors will follow at the Stewart Cemetery.  

Survivors include: his wife, Doris Allison Stewart; son Joe (Kim) Stewart; grandchildren Will and Katie Stewart; along with sister Mary Elizabeth Stewart.

He is preceded in death by his parents Issac and Mary Jane Griffin Stewart and brothers Cleveland Stewart, James Thomas Stewart and Rufus Harrison Stewart.

Honorary pallbearers: Staff of 8B VA Medical Center, Murfreesboro. Active pallbearers: Robert Allison, Russ Skougland, Tyler Lasater, Jeff Medlin, Allan Shehane and Larry Singleton.

Memorials may be made to the Wilson County Veteran’s Park & Museum, c/o: Veterans Service Office, 228 East Main Street, Lebanon 37087.

Arrangements are in the care of Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home, Lebanon.
