1 year-old child drowns in swimming pool

The Wilson County Sheriff's Office, Mt. Juliet Police Department, along with the community, is mourning the loss of a deputy and communications officer's 1-year-old son.

On Monday, July 25, it was reported that the son of Wilson County Sheriff's Deputy Mike Long and MJPD Communications Center Supervisor Kinnie Long had fallen into the pool and drowned.

Meet the Tigers Aug. 6
Watertown High's football program is holding a "Meet the Tigers Night" and tailgate party 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6 at Robinson Stadium.

Plans call for a barbeque dinner, live and silent auctions, inflatables, Watertown spirit picture booth and introductions of the 2016 players and coaching staff.

Smith takes over for 2017 season
Wilson Central has filled its vacant softball coaching position with Monday's appointment of Shawn Smith, 53, as the interim head coach of the program.

Smith, a former baseball player at the University of Southern Mississippi, is the father of Wilson Central infielder Claire Smith and coached the Southside Middle School baseball program for six seasons in the past.

Smith, who owns his own insurance agency, has given private hitting lessons to both softball and baseball players in Wilson County for several years and worked two years full-time as a scout for the Chicago Cubs.

WCHS golf tournament
The 12th annual Wilson Central Golf Program fundraiser tournament will be Thursday July 28 at Pine Creek Golf Course.
The range will open and a barbeque lunch will be served at 12:30 pm. A shotgun start is planned for 1:30 pm.
Entry fee is $75 per person / $300 per team for a 4-member scramble.
Mulligans will be sold. Each player will receive a goody bag, and prizes will be awarded for the top three teams.

All-state -- Locals earn TBCA honors

A pair of Wilson County baseball standouts have been named all-state by the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association.

Mt. Juliet High pitcher Aaron Brown was selected to the Class AAA team. Brown was the District 9-AAA Most Valuable Player. He went 7-2 on the mound with an ERA of 1.05 in 53.3 innings of work.
