By SAM HATCHER Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant of Alabama football fame was questioned by reporters after the 1978 Sugar Bowl as to why he didn’t wear his signature houndstooth hat during the game. His response was something like . . . “My mama always told me not to wear a hat indoors.” He was just being courteous. He was practicing good manners. He was doing what his mama had told him to do. There’s a lot about being courteous and not being rude that we seem to have forgotten. Many are saying it’s about civility. I lean more toward what Coach Bryant said. I think many of us have forgotten what our mama’s taught us. Oh, by the way Alabama won that Sugar Bowl by a score of 35-6 over Ohio State.
