Prep season opens Aug. 19
Friday marks one week until the start of the 2016 high school football season and local coaches will be making their final tune-ups following a full slate of jamborees and scrimmages Aug. 12 and 13.
Wilson Central's Wildcats travel to Sumner County this evening to take on Gallatin in a "First Look" game condition scrimmage at Green Wave Stadium / Calvin Short Field.
Action will start at 6:30 p.m. as the Wilson Central ninth graders play against GHS, followed by two varsity periods beginning at 7:15 p.m. The Gallatin and Wilson Central junior varsity will close out the affair at 8 p.m.
Mt. Juliet Christian Academy will be in action friday at 6 p.m. as the Saints scrimmage Hillwood High in the Metro Nashville Jamboree at John Overton High School.
The MJCA v. Hillwood scrimmage will be followed by Glencliff vs. Antioch, at 7 p.m. and host Overton vs. Cane Ridge at 8 p.m.
Friday at Lebanon's Tribble Field / Watkins Stadium the Lebanon All-Sports Boosters and the Blue Devil Football Foundation are hosting a "We Are Big Blue" cookout and scrimmage.
The free event begins with food at 5:30 p.m. and will serve as a membership drive for the Booster Club. Season tickets and parking passes for the 2016 season will also be available for purchase.
Lebanon's varsity team will close out the evening vs. Pope John Paul II in a 7 p.m. scrimmage.
Friday's final event finds Friendship Christian School playing on the turf at Father Ryan High School. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
On Saturday, Mt. Juliet travels to Beech High in Sumner County to participate in the Bears vs. Bucs Kickoff Classic.
Mt. Juliet Middle School will play T.W. Hunter Middle School at 6 p.m., followed by a scrimmage between the the Beech and Mt. Juliet ninth graders at 6:45 p.m.
The Mt. Juliet and Beech junior varsity will play at 7:30 p.m. followed by an 8:15 match-up between the two varsity programs. Admission is $5 per person, which covers all scrimmages.
Watertown High's Robinson Stadium will be the site of a preseason jamboree set for Saturday, Aug. 13.
Watertown Middle School will host Southside at 6 p.m. followed by the WHS junior varsity going against DeKalb County High at 7 p.m.
The Watertown and DeKalb County varsity teams will take the field at 8 p.m. for two quarters of action.
Opening week of the season is set for Aug. 19 as Watertown visits longtime rival Gordonsville, Wilson Central visits Beech and Gallatin travels to Mt. Juliet High.
Friendship Christian entertains Davidson Academy and Mt. Juliet Christian Academy plays at Cornersville.
Lebanon High will be idle.
