GLADEVILLE -- Wilson Central post player Jasmine Hassell, rated as the nation’s No. 11 overall prospect by HoopGurlz and No. 18 overall by Blue Star, has verbally committed to play for the University of Georgia.
Hassell, a 6-2 senior, averaged about 20 points and more than 10 rebounds per game last season and has led Wilson Central to the Class AAA state title in two of her three seasons.
"She’s a great leader and a great person who is a role model student," said her coach Bud Brandon. "Georgia is getting a player that has been tested, and in Tennessee, our brand of basketball is one of the top brands in the country. She’s used to success and winning. She’s going to be a great asset to Coach (Andy) Landers’ program."
"I liked the coaches, I liked the girls, It felt like home. When you’re a little kid, [playing in the SEC is] always something you think about," Hassell said. "It’s a dream."
Hassell, the 2008 Class AAA Miss Basketball, also visited Kentucky, Middle Tennessee and Vanderbilt. She has been an All-District and All-Region selection each year since she was a freshman. She was a member of the all-tournament team at the state tournament in 2006.
Hassell has already scored more than 1,700 points in her career at Wilson Central.
