Jernigan is CoSIDA 1st team All-America®

LEBANON -- Cumberland linebacker Nathan Jernigan was voted First Team Academic All-America® for the College Division Nov. 30, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Jernigan ranked second overall in the Mid-South Conference in tackles with 104, leading Cumberland for the third straight season.

The Eagleville native registered double figure tackles in five games this season, including 15 against Georgetown College, 12 versus Campbellsville University and 11 against the University of Pikeville and Bethel University.

He also collected 4.0 tackles for loss with 1.5 sacks, five pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and blocked a punt at West Alabama.

Jernigan was named Mid-South Conference West Division Co-Defensive Player of the Week on November 19 as well.

Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically and maintain a 3.30 grade-point-average and above to be nominated for the award.

Also student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve and only those individuals voted First Team All-District were in the pool of candidates for All-America.
