Children under age 10 and their parents, who live in the City of Lebanon, will be admitted into the Jimmy Floyd Family Center free of charge this month while the popular wading pool at Don Fox Park is repaired.
The wading pool has long been a favorite of Lebanon residents as well as children who visit the park with their parents from surrounding cities.
However, folks were in for an unexpected surprise this summer. "The wading pool liner deteriorated over the winter. It's been in there for over 12 years. It had tears in about four places and water got up underneath it. The liner came unglued and it was history," said Jimmy Floyd Family Center Director Tim Hill. The JFFC maintains the wading pool at Don Fox.
Hill said the wading pool not only needs new liner, it needs new plaster. The wading pool opened in 1994.
The Lebanon City Council voted on Tuesday night to spend an estimated $40,000 on the repairs. It was Ward 2 Council Member Joey Carmack who suggested allowing city children free entry into the Floyd Center during the repair process.
"Once they are finished with the bids, construction should probably take 10 to 12 days," Hill explained. "It will be about three weeks from start to finish."
Hill hopes the wading pool is back open to the public by the end of the month, or early July at the absolute latest.
Free entry to the Floyd Center is for children and their parents who are residents of Lebanon. Please bring a proof of residence.
