Former assistant district attorney --
MT. JULIET -- Funeral services have been scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14 at the Victory Baptist Church on Tate Lane for the Honorable Bobby Capers, 72, of Mt. Juliet.
Retired Circuit Court Judge in the 15th Judicial District of Tennessee as well as a former assistant district attorney, Judge Capers died Jan. 10, 2015.
Judge Capers attended Mt. Juliet Church of Christ, Hermitage United Methodist Church and First Baptist Church of Mt. Juliet.
A former police officer with the City of Memphis, he was a longtime coach of youth sports in Mt. Juliet and volunteered for several years as the public address announcer for Mt. Juliet High football games at Elzie Patton Stadium.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Bond Memorial Chapel and Wednesday from 11 a.m. until service at the church. Services will be conducted by Rev. Chuck Groover. Interment will follow at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include: his wife of 53 years Sherron Gale Duncan Capers and children: Bobby Harold "Bear" (Brenda May Cleary) Capers, Jr., Christi Cara Capers, Kelli Dawn Capers (Ray Anthony "Tony") Cook and Jeffre "Annie" (Chance, Sr.) Martin.
Also surviving are siblings: John Taylor (Sandye) Capers, Luther Calvin (Ruby) Capers, Julianne Capers (Jim) Ostner and Linda "Nancy" Capers (Clyde) Johnson; grandchildren: Brandon Chance (Callie Rose) Martin, John-Michael Cook, Kristin Gale Cook, Chandler Harrison Solomon, Madeline Claire Capers and Anderson Gray Capers; great-grandchild Troian Annalise Martin -- due in May 2015 as well as several nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are special friends: Brenda Oliver, Mary Gail Porter, Cindy Osborne, Dolores Fitzgerald, Marcus and Linda Cain, Joyce Spencer, Terri Carter, Juanita Hazelwood, Trish Medley, Carol Lawson and Steve Lawson in absentia; caregivers Diana, Sarah, Laurie, Rosie and Ron.
Judge Capers is preceded in death by his precious mother, Jewel Presley Capers and his brother, Jimmy Thomas Capers.
