The NAIA honored 10 Cumberland athletic squads this week as NAIA Scholar Teams for the 2016-17 academic year.

Teams must obtain a 3.00 cumulative grade-point-average or higher for all eligible varsity student-athletes during the past academic year to garner the award.

Lebanon High standout
Cumberland University volleyball coach Kathy Salughter didn't have to go far to pick up a quality recruit for the coming season as she signed Lebanon High senior Briana Clemmons to scholarship papers Friday morning.

A solid front line player for the Lady Devils who was an All District 9-AAA selection, Clemmons plans on pursuing a major in Cumberland's acclaimed athletic training program. She is the daughter of Patrick and Holly Clemmons.

CU Hall of Famer takes volleyball job

Former prep coach Kathy Palk Slaughter --
LEBANON -- Cumberland University Director of Athletics Ron Pavan announced Tuesday morning the hiring of Kathy Palk Slaughter as head coach effective immediately.

The Sparta native is a former Bulldog player and assistant coach as well as a highly successful high school coach in the middle Tennessee area.
