Pitching dominates in three victories
NASHVILLE -- Waiting out an extended delay due to lightning and rain, three Mt. Juliet pitchers combined to strike out 17 in a Monday, March 20 7-0 win over Portland at Vanderbilt's Hawkins Field.
Starter Aaron Brown along with relievers Sean Hunley and Ethan Smith pitched a two-hit shutout as the Bears improved to 3-2 on the season. Brown struck out nine of the 10 batters he faced in three innings.
Softball, baseball reports
Cold, damp conditions caused the cancellation of several scheduled season-opening games Monday involving Wilson County prep softball and baseball teams.
Friendship Christian's late afternoon encounter at home versus Father Ryan High was postponed with no make-up date set.
Lebanon High's season-opener against Hendersonville High at Drakes Creek Park was also put on hold, with no make-up date scheduled.
Commanders fall in region opener
LEBANON -- Friendship Christian's baseball season came to an end Tuesday, May 10 as Battle Ground Academy scored a 5-2 come from behind win over the Commanders in the opening round of the East-Middle region tournament.
FCS was clinging to a 2-1 lead when BGA struck for four runs in the top of the seventh.
MJ Bears sweep Station Camp
LEBANON -- Lathon Whittington lifted a long two-out drive off the glove of a Wilson Central outfielder to tie the score and moments later scampered home from third on an overthrow as Lebanon High climbed off the deck to down the Wildcats 3-2 Wednesday at Brent Foster Field.
With the win, the Blue Devils split the season series with Central and improved to 17-9 overall, 5-3 in the district.
"It was ugly, but we found a way to get it done," said Blue Devil coach Eric Vetetoe.

WCHS falls 4-3 to Nazareth Academy
Lebanon High's baseball team improved to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in District 9-AAA following Wednesday's 5-1 victory over Gallatin at David Alexander Field.
The Blue Devils got a sterling pitching performance from sidearmer Daniel Holmes. The junior righty retired the first 10 Green Wave batters he faced and finished with a complete game three-hitter. He struck out four Gallatin hitters with no walks.
Bears thump LaVergne Wednesday
UPDATE -- Mt. Juliet's baseball team is scheduled to host Smyrna High Saturday in the 2016 home-opener. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. This game was on the schedule for Friday, but has since been moved.
The Golden Bears improved to 6-2 on the season following Wednesday's 10-2 win at LaVergene.
Ethan Smith (2-0) worked three innings of one-hit relief the win, despite walking three.
Mt. Juliet 9, Portland 5
NASHVILLE -- Tyler Overstreet scattered three hits and worked around four walks in four and one-third innings Monday evening to earn the decision as Mt. Juliet downed Portland High 9-3 at Vanderbilt's Hawkins Field.
With the win, Mt. Juliet improved to 9-5 on the season headed into a Thursday evening game vs. Bearden High in the Farragut Demarini Classic.
