Senior Nathan Jernigan honored --
Cumberland University's Nathan Jernigan was voted the 2016-17 recipient of the Lindsey Donnell Award April 20, presented annually to a Phoenix student-athlete who excels in both academics and athletics.
The award is given in honor of Lindsey Donnell, a former Phoenix football Little All-American and former professor at Cumberland University.
Leading tackler for 4 seasons
Cumberland University senior linebacker Nathan Jernigan was named a Second Team All-American by the American Football Coaches Tuesday, as announced by the AFCA and the NAIA.
The Eagleville High School graduate was voted Mid-South Conference West Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season last month.
"Nathan has been one of our team leaders since he came on campus five years ago," said CU head coach Donnie Suber.

Cumberland University linebacker Nathan Jernigan has earned his second-straight Mid-South Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Year honor.
Individual awards as well as first and second team All-West Division honorees were announced Wednesday afternoon by the MSC.
A redshirt senior, Jernigan ranks third in the Mid-South with 9.5 tackles per game and 105 total tackles and is one of three defenders in the MSC with at least 100 tackles.

LEBANON -- Cumberland linebacker Nathan Jernigan was voted First Team Academic All-America® for the College Division Nov. 30, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Jernigan ranked second overall in the Mid-South Conference in tackles with 104, leading Cumberland for the third straight season.

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Mid-South Conference officials released the 2015 West Division teams along with the individual award winners Nov. 19.
Campbellsville (Ky.) quarterback Jacob Russell is the Craig Mullins MSC West Offensive Player of the Year while Cumberland University linebacker Nathan Jernigan (Eagleville) and Reinhardt (Ga.) defensive lineman Javier Dyer are the West Division Defensive Co-Players of the Year.
Defensive Player of the Week --
LEBANON -- Cumberland University linebacker Nathan Jernigan was voted the Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday, Sept. 7 after posting 15 tackles in CU's 33-26 victory Saturday over No. 11 Georgetown College.
The Rutherford County native (Eagleville High) collected his seventh career double-figure tackle outing and sixth in the last 12 games overall.
