MJ's Shea, Central's Elrod -
Mt. Juliet High's Cole Shea and Wilson Central's John Elrod have been named Class AAA all-state in track & field by the Tennessee Sport Writers Association.
As a junior, Shea recorded a 14-6 effort to win the Class AAA state championship in the pole vault at Middle Tennessee State's Dean A. Hayes Stadium back in May -- finishing six inches ahead of a pair of Brentwood High vaulters.
MJHS doubles, WCHS singles -
Mt. Juliet High's double tennis team of Josh Walker and Dylan Chambers and Wilson Central singles player Michael Mercante have been named all-state by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association.
Walker and Chambers brought home a second place finish in the Class AAA state tournament Friday afternoon, May 26.
Lady Wildcats stand 29-2 overall
LEBANON -- Methodical Wilson Central took a 14-6 lead and never looked back, clinching a second consecutive District 9-AAA tournament championship Tuesday with a 39-26 victory over Mt. Juliet at Campbell Brandon Gymnasium.
With the win, the Lady Wildcats improved to 29-2 on the season and stretched their winning streak to nine straight headed into a Friday, Feb. 24 home game in the Region 5-AAA opener against the No. 4 team out of District 10-AAA.
(boys) Lebanon 68, Portland 21
LEBANON -- Host and top-seeded Lebanon High wasted no time disposing of No. 8 seeded Portland Friday night, Feb. 17, dispatching the Panthers 68-21 in the quarterfinals of the District 9-AAA tournament at Campbell Brandon Gymnasium.
The Blue Devils (20-7 overall) put the game out of reach with an 18-2 start and quickly moved ahead 36-9 at intermission.
Seven locals still in contention
FRANKLIN -- Wilson County has seen four local boys advance to the semifinals of their respective weight classes in the TSSAA Class AAA state championships being held at the Williamson County Ag. Expo Center.
Semifinals start at 6 p.m. Admission is $10 per person. Parking is an additional $5.
FCS & MJCA boys play tonight
FRANKLIN -- Friendship Christian's season came to a close Tuesday night as the Lady Commanders dropped a 64-32 decision to Battle Ground Academy in the opening round of the Division II East-Middle Region Tournament.
The Lady Wildcats pounced early, taking a 14-8 lead after one quarter and a 30-12 lead at intermission.
Bayley West and Hailey Pittman each had six points to lead Friendship Christian.

LHS girls; 11 individuals qualify
FRANKLIN -- Lebanon High's girls bowling team blasted their way into this weekend's state tournament with a 21-6 victory over Ravenwood Saturday in the TSSAA sectionals at the Franklin Lanes.
With the win, the Lady Devils moved to 21-1 on the season and earned a berth in the eight-team tournament which cranks up Friday afternoon at the Smyrna Bowling Center.
Mt. Juliet 49, McGavock 10
DONELSON -- Taking control early, Mt. Juliet rolled to a 49-10 victory at McGavock Thursday night, Oct. 27, wrapping up the Region 3, 6A championship in the process.
The Golden Bears wrapped up the regular season 8-2 overall and 6-1 in the region earning a first round home game in the TSSAA playoffs Nov. 4 against the No. 8 team from Region 4, 6A Bartlett High (3-7).
WHS, FCS face home games
Still smarting from a heartbreaking loss at The King's Academy a week ago, Mt. Juliet Christian Academy can lock up the first winning season in the history of the program tonight at Zion Christian Academy. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Holcomb Field in Columbia.
Gaddes, Turner finish in Top 25
MANCHESTER -- Reece Gaddes and William Turner shot identical scores of six-over 150 over the two-day TSSAA Class AAA state golf tournament at WillowBrook Golf Course Oct. 11 and 12 to lift Wilson Central to fifth place as a team.
The two shot 74's Tuesday followed by 74's Wednesday to tie at 21st place as individuals as the Wildcats carded a 625, 49-over par for the event.
Lady Commanders end season 38-13
COLLIERVILLE -- Friendship Christian's volleyball season came to a close Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 loss at St. George's Independent School in the Division II-A substate. Game scores: 25-12, 25-20 and 25-23.
"After a rocky start, the girls really put up a fight," said FCS head coach John Stephens.
"We were definitely outmatched in height at the net, but our front line worked hard and held their own.
MJ blanks Antioch
ANTIOCH -- Mt. Juliet got touchdowns from its special teams and defense on the way to 45-0 victory over Region 3, 6A rival Antioch Thursday night.
With the win, the Golden Bears moved to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the region headed into an open week.
"Getting a shutout these days with the up-tempo, spread offenses is a big deal at any level," said MJHS head coach Trey Perry.
WCHS team, two individuals headed to state
HENDERSONVILLE -- Wilson Central earned the program's first team berth in the TSSAA state golf tournament next week in Manchester with a one-shot win over Hendersonville High Monday in the Region 5-AAA tournament at Country Hills Golf Course.
Final drive sinks Tigers
CHAPEL HILL -- Forrest utilized its quick-strike ability to stay in Friday's matchup with visiting Region 4-2A rival Watertown.
The Rockets used their grind-it-out style to put away an eventual 35-28 victory - one that likely determined the region championship.
"Coach (Brent Johns) told us to be the more physical team," Forrest senior running back Jacob Jones said following his 116-yard, two-touchdown rushing effort. "In the fourth quarter, we were the more physical team."
Wilson Central 62, Lebanon 26
LEBANON -- Wilson Central bounced back from last week's home loss to Mt. Juliet with a resounding 62-26 victory over Lebanon Friday at Tribble Field / Watkins Stadium.
The Wildcats (6-1) took advantage of five LHS turnovers, four in the first half, and led 48-13 at intermission.
MURFREESBORO -- Lebanon High senior Will Earps finished in ninth place in the Class AAA decathlon Tuesday, held at Middle Tennessee State's Dean A. Hayes Track & Soccer Stadium.
Earps won the final event of the competition, the 1,500 meters, in a time of 4:46.51 Earlier in the day he placed third in the shot put with a heave of 38 feet, three-quarters inches.
Bears end season May 16
MT. JULIET -- With the game on the line, Bradley Wilson pitched backwards and as a result, his Rossview team is moving on to the finals of the Region 5-AAA tournament following a May 16 rain-soaked 3-0 win over Mt. Juliet.
After working the early innings with a solid fastball, the sturdy right-hander befuddled Golden Bear hitters in the late going by alternating a slow curve and deadly change early in the count.
Lady Commanders slug three HRs
LEBANON -- Riding the long ball, Friendship Christian's softball team took a big step toward a return to the TSSAA Spring Fling with a solid 5-2 victory over Tipton-Rosemark Academy in Wednesday's opening game of the Division II-A sectional.
The Lady Commanders and Tipton-Rosemark were set to play Thursday at 2 p.m. followed by the "if necessary" game at 4 p.m. Admission is $7 per person as set by the TSSAA.

School record holder in decathlon
A Lebanon High senior has already qualified for the 2016 TSSAA Class AAA Spring Fling in Murfreesboro May 23 and 24.
Blue Devil Will Earps will be representing LHS in the decathlon, a two-day, ten-event contest of strength, endurance and speed to be held May 23 and 24 at MTSU's Dean Hayes Track Stadium.
Tennova Healthcare - Lebanon, formerly University Medical Center, will host its annual free sports screening day for Wilson County student-athletes on Saturday, April 16 from 7:30 until 11:30 a.m. at the physical therapy department on the ground floor of the patient tower.
Lady 'Cats end season 33-1
MURFREESBORO -- Wilson Central's magical 33-0 run came crashing to a halt with a 48-43 loss to Memphis Central in the Wednesday, March 9 quarterfinal round of the Class AAA BlueCross Championships at MTSU's Murphy Center.
Down 10 (28-18) midway through the third quarter, the Lady Warriors relied on smothering man-to-man pressure to outscore Wilson Central 30-15 the rest of the way.
WCHS hosts Sectional Saturday
This one is for all the marbles. With a berth in next week's TSSAA BlueCross Basketball Championship at stake, Wilson Central will host Ravenwood in Saturday's Class AAA sectional game.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Admission is $7 per person with advance tickets available at the school office.
Hillsboro ends Mt. Juliet season
NASHVILLE -- Hillsboro senior Thomas Smith led the way with a double-double, 24 points and 12 rebounds, as the Burros clinched a berth in next week's BlueCross Basketball Championships with a 66-46 win over Mt. Juliet Monday.
The Burros pulled ahead 19-2 and never looked back, improving to 21-7 on the season.
One of three Class AAA finalists
Wilson Central's record-setting senior Kendall Spray is one of three finalists for Tennessee's Class AAA Miss Basketball.
Spray, who owns state records for the most 3-pointers in both a single game and a single season, joins Crystal Dangerfield of Blackman and Anastasia Hayes of Riverdale as finalists.
Seven headed to state as individuals
SMYRNA -- Wilson Central's Lady Wildcats bowling team captured the District 12 tournament title with a 21.5 to 5.5 win over Lebanon in Tuesday afternoon's finals at the Smyrna Bowling Center.
Kayla Hubbuch rolled a 194 and Rickie Denson had a 181 for Central.
FCS hosts Harding Academy
Only three Wilson County football teams remain alive as the TSSAA playoffs reach the second round. Mt. Juliet and Wilson Central will be on the road tonight in 6A while Division II-A Friendship Christian will be at home.
All state playoff games start at 7 p.m. local time.
Four Wilson County football teams will be in action Friday, Nov. 6 in the opening round of the TSSAA playoffs.
Class 2A Watertown (8-2) rode a 42-6 win over Westmoreland to earn a first round home game Nov. 6 vs. Chattanooga Tyner (7-3). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Robinson Stadium.
Two walk-off wins in DII-A finals
MURFREESBORO -- Friendship Christian's Lady Commanders endured two gut-wrenching wins in the Division II-A softball finals to wrestle the 2015 state championship away from The King's Academy Friday afternoon at Starplex.
Courtney Petty led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a walk-off solo home run to lift her team to a 3-2 victory over the Lady Lions Friday morning in the first game of the finals and forced the "if necessary" game later that day.
Wilson Central 6, Dickson Co. 5
MURFREESBORO -- Wilson Central led 6-0 early and held on for a 6-5 victory over defending state champion Dickson County Friday afternoon to win the TSSAA Class AAA softball title at Starplex.
The Lady Wildcats weathered the Cougar storm to end the season 41-7-1 while Dickson County went home 43-6.
"Dickson County is such a good team," Central coach Michael Shepard said. "We knew we'd have to score some runs. They've been coming from behind all week.
MURFREESBORO -- Lebanon High senior Mark Britt ran a 9:32.83 to bring home a fifth place finish in the 3200M (two mile) Friday evening in the TSSAA Class AAA track and field championships at Dean A. Hayes Stadium.
The UT-Chattanooga signee had the top finish of all Wilson Countians participating in the 22nd annual Spring Fling running / jumping / thowing events.
Turner rolls six strikes to open finals --
SMYRNA -- Talk about a hot start. Friendship Christian's Donny Turner rolled six consecutive strikes in the state finals and went on to capture the Division II individual crown Friday morning at the Smyrna Bowling Center.
A junior, Turner handily defeated Conner Nichols of St. Benedict (243-147) in the finals.
