TENNIS -- Three locals named all-state

MJHS doubles, WCHS singles -
Mt. Juliet High's double tennis team of Josh Walker and Dylan Chambers and Wilson Central singles player Michael Mercante have been named all-state by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association.

Walker and Chambers brought home a second place finish in the Class AAA state tournament Friday afternoon, May 26.

McCabe earns TSWA weekly honor

Former Mt. Juliet High standout
Belmont University's Sally McCabe garnered Tennessee Sports Writers Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors Tuesday, Jan. 110.

The Mt. Juliet High graduate averaging 15.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 5.5 blocks in a pair of victories for the Bruins.

McCabe posted 12 points, seven rebounds and four blocks in a 71-66 victory over UT Martin.

MJ's Wilson earns TSWA honor
Mt. Juliet High volleyball standout SaraGrace Wilson has been named Class AAA All-State by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association.

An outside hitter for the Lady Bears, she will attend Troy University on scholarship this fall.

The senior helped lead Mt. Juliet to a record of 29-5 and the District 9-AAA regular season championship.

A pair of Watertown High football players have been named to the prestigious Tennessee Sports Writers Association Class 2A all-state team.

Two-way standout Rusty Staats was voted in as an offensive lineman while record-setting quarterback Seth Price was one of two signal callers named to the postseason team.

Delfendahl & Williams
A pair of Wilson County football players have been named to the prestigious Tennessee Sports Writers Association Class 6A all-state team.

Mt. Juliet High senior D.J. Delfendahl was voted in as an offensive lineman while Wilson Central specialist Adam Williams made the list as a punter.

Both players helped lead their respective teams to the TSSAA playoffs and both were Tennessee Titans Mr. Football nominees.

CU's Campagne earns statewide honor

TSWA Defensive Player of the Week
Cumberland defensive back Alex Campagne was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday, posting nine tackles, forcing a fumble, returning another fumble 12 yards and recording two pass breakups in CU's victory over Campbellsville University.

The Crestview, Fla., native blocked the PAT on the Tigers first TD of the game and picked up a fumble, returning it 12 yards in the second quarter.

Honors for soccer & 9-AAA as well
Closing the books on the 2015-2016 athletic year, the Tennessee Sports Writers Association has announced all-state teams for bowling, wrestling and track & field -- including several local athletes.

Three Wilson Countians were honored in bowling, Lebanon High's Lindsay Manning on the girls side while Donny Turner and Luke Shoulders earned all-state boys accolades.

ALL-STATE -- TSWA honors MJ's Smith

County's lone all-state selection
Mt. Juliet High center Kalani Smith has been named All-State in Class 6A by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association.

Smith, 6-1, 290, a three-year starter for the Golden Bears, was a Class 6A Mr. Football semifinalist earlier this year and was a team captain.

All-state football Division II-A
The Tennessee Sports Writers Association has released its 2015 All-State football team for Division II-A.

Friendship Christian defensive lineman Joshua Eatherly was the only Wilson Countian to earn all-state honors in Division II-A.

A senior for the Commanders, Eatherly was in on 69 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, nine quarterback sacks, two fumbles recovered and a safety.
