Lady Bears down Wilson Central

MT. JULIET -- A double-double by freshman Caya Williams helped lead Mt. Juliet’s Lady Bears to a 51-40 victory over Wilson Central Tuesday night at "The Cave".

Coach Chris Fryer’s team improved to 21-5 overall / 8-3 in District 9AAA and broke a modest two-game losing streak. Williams poured in 20 points and hauled down 10 rebounds while Britt Bell chipped in with 14 points and five assists.

Central’s Class AAA Miss Basketball Jasmine Hassell picked up two quick fouls in the first period and was limited to 14 points -- with a dozen coming after intermission.

The Lady Wildcats dropped to 22-4 overall and 10-1 in 9AAA. The loss halted a 14-game winning streak for Wilson Central.

Boy’s action Tuesday saw the Goldens Bears post a 54-49 come frombehind win over Central.

Senior Zack Delk scored 10 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter as Mt. Juliet improved to 17-9 overall / 9-2. Teraes Clemmons had 19 points for the winners while Darryl Jackson added 12.

JaJuan Brooks led the Wildcats with 16, Kelton Stewart finished with 13 and Preston Jenkins had eight as WCHS slipped to 12-9 overall / 6-5 in the league.

Central plays at Smyrna Friday night and at Lebanon High Monday, Feb. 16.

Mt. Juliet plays at Hendersonville on Friday.
