I Beat Biddle winner
E.G. Lanius of Lebanon was the Week 9 winner of the "I Beat Biddle" contest. Mr. Lanius predicted 16 of the 20 games correctly and was one of four players who topped our expert -- sports columnist Joe Biddle -- who correctly picked 14 games.
Billy Williams, James Parkerson and Patsy Wynns -- all of Lebanon -- each picked 15 games correctly.
All will receive an "I Beat Biddle" bumper sticker while Mr. Lanius wins a $50 gift card to Buffalo Wild Wings.
All entrants will be eligible for a 60-inch TV to be given away at the end of the contest.
Entries must be turned in at the 107-B Bay Court offices of The Wilson Post by 3 p.m. Friday to be entered in that week’s contest.
WBMS basketball tickets
Season ticket sales for the 2013-2014 basketball season at Winfree Bryant Middle School will close at the end of the school day Friday, Nov. 1. Season tickets are $40 per person and include admission to 10 home doubleheaders as well as any junior varsity or sixth grade games.
The season opens Monday, Nov. 4 against cross-town rival Walter J. Baird Middle School, followed by a Thursday, Nov. 7 twinbill vs. West Wilson Middle.
Pancake breakfast at CU
The Cumberland baseball team will hold its annual Pancake Breakfast and Garage Sale on the CU campus from 6 a.m. until Noon on Saturday, Nov. 9. The public is invited to the pancake breakfast at Phillips Dining Hall from 6-10 a.m. Cost is $5 per person and includes pancakes, bacon and sausage, and juice or coffee.
The garage sale runs at 6 a.m. until Noon at the Benton Jennings Hitting Facility. A variety of items, including, uniforms and equipment, will be on sale. All proceeds generated from the event will benefit the Bulldog baseball program.
CU fan bus planned
Cumberland University football fans are planning a charter bus to the final game of the season, a Saturday, Nov. 16 trip to Alderson Broaddus in Phillipi, West Virginia. Tentative plans call for the bus to leave Friday, Nov. 15 with an overnight stay in Bridgeport, WVa., some 50 miles from the A-B campus.
Cost for riding the bus is $68 per person, based on full occupancy, and does not include lodging. For information, contact Chip Beach at 931-334-1266.
MSC honors CU's Hamilton
Cumberland keeper Ian Hamilton was voted the Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week after making seven saves and helping the Bulldogs to a 5-1 victory Saturday over Bluefield.
The West Chester, Ohio, native collected three saves in the first half against the Rams, as Cumberland took a 2-0 lead to intermission with goals from Harry Mason and Luke Wilson.
Hamilton faced 12 total shots in the match and Bluefield’s only goal of the match came on a penalty kick in the 76th minute.
The Bulldogs improved to 5-11-1 overall, 4-5-0 in the MSC, with Saturday’s win on Senior Day. Seven players were honored before the match, including Mason, Wilson, Mark Harrison, Nathan Gillespie, Eric Clark, Marconi Neto and Francisco Alva.
