An annual budget and tax rate for the fiscal year which began July 1 and ends June 30, 2014 was passed by the Lebanon City Council Tuesday night, Aug. 6.

On third reading, the budget passed with a vote of 3-3, with Mayor Philip Craigheads yes vote as the tie-breaker. Ward 1 Councilor Lanny Jewell, Ward 2 Councilor Fred Burton and Ward 6 Councilor Kathy Warmath voted no. Ward 3 Councilor Rob Cesternino, Ward 4 Councilor Joe Hayes and Ward 5 Councilor Tick Bryan voted yes.

Jewell explained that he believed the 26.19-cent tax increase was still a bit high.

Hayes made an amendment to use some funds in the budget to improve sewer to residents on the north side of Leeville Pike. Councilors approved this amendment.
