Kmart in Lebanon was safely not on a list of store closings released Thursday afternoon just two days after Sears Holdings Corp. announced it would close up to 120 Sears and Kmart stores nationwide due to poor sales.
The list represented 79 of the 100 to 120 stores scheduled for closing, which the company said will target stores that are not posting adequate profits. The company said earlier in the week they would move forward with fewer, better-performing stores.
Nearby, a Hendersonville Kmart, located at 237 E. Main Street will be closing at a date that has yet to be determined. While the company could not provide a total number of jobs lost from the 79 closings announced yesterday, they did note a typical store employs between 40 and 80 people.
The remaining list of closings will be posted on the companys website, www.searsmedia.com sometime in the near future.
