To the Editor:
This October 1st is the International Day of Older Persons focusing on taking a stand against ageism. Many older Americans deal with this problem daily. Retirees have also been "beaten up" economically for the past several years.
I worked decades for my former employer and accepted less in salary in exchange for guaranteed retirement healthcare benefits.
Unfortunately, it has become increasingly easy and popular for corporate America to wash their hands of their fiduciary obligations to our retiree benefits and also selling off our pensions.
There are plenty of "holidays" that recognize seniors - Grandparents Day, Senior Citizens Day - but we need our government leaders to stop ignoring seniors' real economic concerns.
I am a member of a non-profit called ProtectSeniors.org that is leading the charge to protect the interests of older Americans. I encourage all retirees to join in the fight to preserve our retirement security.
