Lebanon High’s baseball team will permanently honor the memory of the late Randy “Hondo” Vanatta with a display on the outfield fence of Brent Foster Field.

The display was unveiled Saturday, Feb. 1 at the inaugural "First Pitch Dinner" held at the LHS cafeteria to kick-off the 2014 Blue Devil baseball season.

Vanatta was a longtime teacher and coach at LHS as well as a standout baseball / basketball player who graduated with the Class of 1972. He went on to play baseball and basketball at the former Cumberland Junior College before completing his education at MTSU.

Vanatta, who also served for a time on the Wilson County Commission, was killed in an auto accident March 30, 2013 shortly after having played an important role in the dedication of Brent Foster Field.

Flanking the display, designed by Advance Signs & Graphics, is Randy’s brother Ryan Vanatta (left) and Blue Devil baseball coach Tony Long.
