LHS hires baseball coach

Coach Long won a TSSAA Class AA state championship at White House High in 2000 -- leading the Blue Devils to a record of 32-4.

While at White House, he was voted District Coach of the Year five times, Region Coach of the Year once and Class AA Coach of the Year.

He also had head coaching stints at Columbia Central (where he coached Atlanta Braves infielder Dan Uggla) and Marion County -- where he took the Warriors to the Class A sectionals.

Long also coached for seven years (2002-2009) in Naples, FL at Palmetto Ridge High and this past season as an assistant at First Baptist Academy in Naples.

For the past six years, he has also worked as lead evaluator and instructor for The Baseball Factory in Naples.

Prior to his prep coaching career, he coached as an assistant at Motlow State, Middle Tennessee State University and worked four seasons as the pitching coach at Volunteer State Community College.Long, a graduate of East Tennessee State University (B.S.) and Tennessee State University (M.A. Ed.), has earned certifications in both physical education and special education. He is expected to teach special ed at LHS.

Tryouts moved to July 29, 20Lebanon High School will now hold baseball tryouts Monday and Tuesday, July 29 and30 at Brent Foster Field -- after heavy weekend rain washed out the planned tryouts for July 22 and 23. Players should come prepared to play with proper attire, including long pants, caps, cleats, gloves and bats.

In addition, players must bring a copy of a current physical exam. Tryouts will run between the hours of 3-5 p.m.
