Lions 15U split region openers

VARINA, Va. -- Lebanon’s Lions Club 15U All-Stars ran into a buzzsaw Thursday morning in pool play game of the Southeast Region Babe Ruth Baseball tournament.
After winning their tournament opener Wednesday afternoon over Arlington, Va., the Tennessee champions dropped a 15-5 decision to Lumber River, NC.
The North Carolina champions pounded out 19 hits against three Lebanon pitchers and took advantage of five errors.
Eli Teel finished with a pair of singles and drove in two runs for the Lions in Thursday’s loss. He also scored two runs. Shannon Mansfield and Joseph Warren had the only other hits for Lebanon -- both singles.
The local team was scheduled to continue pool play later Thursday afternoon vs. Tallassee, Alabama, then wrap up pool play with a Friday morning contest against Longwood, Florida.
The top two teams in Lebanon’s pool will advance to a single-elimination tournament beginning Saturday.

VARINA, Va. -- Will Adams and Jake Davis had two hits apiece as the Lebanon Lions 15U Babe Ruth All-Stars opened tournament play with a 5-1 victory over Arlington, Va.
The Tennessee state champions banged out seven hits, six singles and an RBI double by Ryan Smith.
The Lions took an early lead with a run in the bottom of the first, then took a 2-0 lead with another tally in the fourth.
Starting pitcher Jarred Bradshaw started and got the win with five innings of work, working around three walks. He struck out four and scattered six hits.

John Doweless with two innings of one-hit relief, walking two and striking out one.
