Bears fall in Class AAA Sectional
THOMPSONS STATION -- Independence connected on 15-of-16 fourth quarter free throws to down Mt. Juliet 56-47 in the Class AAA Sectional Monday, March 6. With the victory, the Eagles earned the first trip to the BlueCross Championships in the history of the program, improving to 23-10 on the season.
Coach Troy Allen's squad wrapped up the season 23-11. As a program, Mt. Juliet is now 0-7 in the Sectional game.
The Golden Bears trailed 23-21 at intermission as JR Sanders scored his team's first nine points and 15 of their 21 points by the break.
Indy cracked down in the second half, double-teaming Sanders and holding him to just one point over the final 16 minutes.
Sanders led the Bears with 16 points while Terrell Wilson and Trey Pruitt each scored 10 points.

Former Blue Devils advance to state
A pair of former Lebanon High Blue Devils have guided their respective teams to the TSSAA Championships next week.
Former LHS assistant Jason Welch led his Macon County Tigers past Chattanooga Tyner 69-58 to earn a berth in the Class AA tournament.
MCHS is advancing to the final eight for the first time in 31 years with a record of 29-4.
Lebanon High graduate Troy Bond saw his Oakland Patriots defeat Walker Valley 57-45 Monday -- earning the Patriots their first trip to the state tournament since 2007. Oakland moves on with a record of 24-7.
Bond is in his second season at Oakland after coaching 14 years at Wilson Central.
