Daisy Troop #874 recently became the first to earn the Mt. Juliet Chamber of Commerce "I Climbed Mt. Juliet" fun patch.
In order to earn the patch, each Girl Scout must complete a select number of activity requirements, depending on her age level. Nearly 30 local businesses have signed on to provide a variety of activities that enrich, empower and educate local Girl Scouts.
"It was so much fun to have an opportunity to earn this patch right here in our own community," Troop Leader Erica Bowen said. "There are a variety of fun, informative activities, and the girls have learned a lot about what makes Mt. Juliet such a special place to live. Plus, the moms enjoyed participating in the activities, too."
Anita Spicer, director of membership at the Mt. Juliet Chamber, added, "This program provides the Chamber's Women in Business Council the opportunity to mentor young women and help them to understand the importance of involvement in their community. It took several months of hard work to develop this program and get it approved through the Girl Scout Council, so it's very rewarding now to see troops begin to earn their patch."
The patch is provided to the Girl Scouts at no charge and is available at the Mt. Juliet Chamber of Commerce office.
