annual event set at Vandy Thursday -
Five former Wilson County baseball standouts will have one more opportunity to wear their school colors Thursday in the sixth annual MidTN Senior All-Star Classic is planned for Vanderbilt University's Hawkins Field.
Sponsored by Warner Athletic Construction and Top Tenn Baseball, the event had been staged at Cumberland University's Ernest L. Stockton Field since its beginnings, but the ability to play on an artificial surface presented organizer Davy Cothran with an opportunity that was almost too good to pass up.
"The weather is always a concern," Cothran said. "Coach (Woody) Hunt has always been great to deal with, but we're holding a one-day event.
"Rain has hurt us a couple of times and with no lights at Stockton Field, we were pretty much limited to startinging Saturday during the morning hours.
"At Vanderbilt, we can play in the afternoon and evenings, with lights, and not have any concerns about tearing the field up.
"And I'm sure most of our players will look forward to playing on an artificial surface."
Two Watertown High players -- catcher Bo Whitlock and infielder / RHP Seth Price will play for the Class A all-stars against the Division II squad at 3 p.m.
Whitlock has signed with Christian Brothers in Memphis while Price is headed to Lindsey Wilson in Columbia, KY. Price is also a finalist for Class A Player of the Year.
Mt. Juliet Christian Academy infielder / pitcher Daniel Boehm (a Cumberland signee) will play for the Division II team.
Lebanon High infielder Nick Sanders and Wilson Central pitcher Ryan Hill will play for the Class AAA all-stars at 7 p.m.
Sanders is headed to Lindsey Wilson while Hill signed with Marion Military Institute in Alabama.
Between games, Old Hickory Bats will sponsor a home run derby.
