Henderson's Flower Shop in Lebanon has seen many Valentine's Days - and can help you get the holiday right on Tuesday, February 14th.
Owner Donna Odum has operated the shop for the last 20 years. Her mother bought Henderson's from its original owner in 1975.
"It's all I've ever done. It is a service business. We get excited about holiday and making moments personal," Odum said.
Valentine's Day is arguably the busiest day of the year for florists.
"Valentine's is one day a year to show, 'I love you' and 'I appreciate you,'" Odum said. "People still think flowers first."
Odum has spent several weeks preparing for the holiday. She ordered colored roses, in shades of deep purple, blush, lavender, peach and yellow, from Ecuador.
However, red roses are historically the most-requested on Valentine's day.
"In a normal day, we will sell 200 red roses and on Valentine's Day that number jumps to 3,000," she added.
Odum said that male customers ages 16 to 99 come into the shop to pick out flowers for their sweethearts.
"They usually don't pick up the phone. They want to come in and pick it out themselves. They will say, 'My wife loves daisies,' and we can incorporate that into the design," she said, noting that the price range for flowers goes from $10-$100.
For those folks who aren't fans of roses, Henderson's offers mixed cuts and tulips.
"Tulips are pretty popular, but we will sell less than 50 vases of those," Odum said.
Following Valentine's Day on Tuesday - is the National Random Acts of Kindness holiday on Friday, February 17th.
Odum is donating 25 bouquets to anyone willing to pick them up that Friday and brighten someone's day.
"With the turmoil in the world this day and age, we thought it would be something nice to do. If all florists would do that, what a great day it would be."
