A 51-year-old Lebanon man was arrested in Mt. Juliet Monday after police say he shoplifted more than $500 worth of merchandise, primarily knives, from the Gander Mountain store in Mt. Juliet.

Staff at the store reported witnessing James Woodard Jr. cutting open packages and hiding merchandise under his clothing. Mt. Juliet Police stopped Woodard as he attempted to leave the store in his car. After officers searched Woodard, the merchandise was recovered. He was also found to be in possession of a pill bottle containing "different types of pills," according to the MJPD.

Woodard was booked into the Wilson County Jail, charged with theft of merchandise, simple possession of a Schedule II drug and three counts of possession of a legend drug.
