Cumberland returner James McClain was named the NAIA Special Teams Player of the Week after returning the opening kickoff of the second half 92 yards for a touchdown in CUs 21-17 victory last Saturday at 22nd-ranked Shorter University.

It was the first special teams touchdown of McClains career and the first kickoff return for a touchdown by a Bulldog since DaJuan Mannings 90-yard return against Kentucky Christian on November 7, 2009. McClains score gave the Bulldogs the lead for good and Adrian Baker added a two-yard TD run less than four minutes later for CUs final points in the contest.

He was also named Mid-South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week Monday.

It marks the second NAIA Special Teams Player of the Week honor during McClains career. The Nashville native posted 315 all-purpose yards at Belhaven University on October 26, 2008, including 70- and 58-yard touchdown receptions and 18- and seven-yard TD runs. He also returned five kicks for 98 yards in that contest.

Cumberland hosts Faulkner University this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. for Homecoming and Hall of Fame weekend at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field.
