LEBANON -- Cumberland University’s football program will stage a "Meet the Bulldogs" event Saturday, Aug. 23 between the hours of 9-11 a.m. at Lindsey Donnell Stadium.

Plans call for the players to be available for autographs, pocket schedules and posters will be distributed and a few free tickets to upcoming games will be awarded.

Third year head coach Dewayne Alexander is hoping the community will recognize his program as "fan friendly".

"We’ve got an outstanding group of young men on this football team, certainly the best since I’ve been here," Alexander said.

"I’d especially like to invite the junior pro, junior high and high school players to come meet these guys Saturday morning."

Cumberland will wrap up serious two-a-day practices today and is scheduled to hold "Picture Day" activities Thursday morning.

A game-type intrasquad scrimmage is on tap for Thursday afternoon followed by two light practices on Friday in helmets, shirts and shorts.

Alexander was particularly pleased with the effort dur-ing Saturday afternoon’s nearly 90 minute scrimmage.

"I was pleased with our concentration and execution," Alexander said.

"We were on our 12th consecutive practice session and I thought our guys were a little leg weary, but they battled through it.

"Our offense didn’t have any bad plays, no bad snaps, no bad exchanges between the quarterbacks and backs.

"Our receivers ran good routes and I thought our offensive play was very physical."

Senior tight end Michael Thrasher pulled in several tough catches.

On the other hand, the Bulldog defense of first-year coordinator Donnie Suber didn’t give up big plays.

"Our defense kept things pretty well bottled up, no busts in the secondary -- well played overall," Alexander said.

Lebanon safety Freddie Hall had a leaping interception of a tipped pass to snuff out a late drive.

CU is set to open its’ 11-game season Saturday, August 30 on the road at conference rival Campbellsville.
