We were able to recover the children and the mom, Bowen said.
On Monday night, an Endangered Child Alert was issued for Scott and Bates, who were reportedly to be placed into DCS custody, but Cindy Bates, was said to have fled Wilson County with the children.
Officers with the LPD followed leads and information that led to finding the children yesterday morning. They and Bates were brought back to the LPD and then the children were placed into DCS custody later that day.
Our detectives were out all night, our concern was finding the children and returning them safely, Bowen said.
Bowen declined to say why the children were to be placed in DCS custody, but noted the department is investigating the situation.
Theres an active investigation into the family, Bowen said. But no one is in police custody right now and no charges have been filed.
