Police say both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles and both were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Childress died shortly after arriving at Vandy UMC and Sacco was in critical condition.

Authorities said both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

First responders detected that Childress smelled strongly of alcohol and Metro-Nashville PD said his record reflects three DUI convictions in Nashville, two in 1998 and one in 2009.
